We’re concerned about the environment and the impact we (human beings) have on it. Our tour are just about as green as they can be. Here’s why:
- These are walking tours. The only greenhouse gases we produce is the hot air coming out of our mouths. We won’t mention our love of chili.
- The Tour Guys use bicycles and public transit in the city to get to the tour start locations. Steve in Vancouver doesn’t even own a car!
- We operate online from our homes, without an office. The internet rules.
- The computers we use are small laptops which are much more efficient than desktop machines. Jason in Toronto uses just a tiny “netbook”.
- We don’t print much in the way of promotional materials, and what we do is on a small scale in limited quantities, distributed only as needed.
- Any such printing is done locally – nothing is shipped from overseas.
- We drink a lot of water, and it’s all from the tap. We encourage our guests to do likewise and avoid bottled water because it requires energy to make, package and transport the plastic bottles both before and after they are filled and again to recycle them. Water is something that you can get right out of the tap… for free!
We’re very green right now and we are exploring some ways we can be even greener. Two ideas we are working on:
- Calculating our carbon footprint from our resource use (electricity, paper, food and water) and offsetting it. To learn about carbon offsetting check out this link.
- Becoming active with an environmental program that promotes awareness like 1% For the Planet.
